About John Pillepich
I am a nutritionist, Certified Pharmacy Technician, author, product developer, and strategic advisor with more than 30 years of experience spanning the nutraceutical industry, clinical nutrition, product development, health and wellness marketing, retail, and business operations.
My career has given me the opportunity to work from several different perspectives within the health and nutrition field. I have developed nutritional supplement formulations, managed clinical supplement dispensaries, trained sales teams, provided nutritional guidance to patients and consumers, written technical and educational materials, supported medical practitioners, and worked directly with website designers, marketers, and business owners.
Nutraceutical and Clinical Experience
My professional experience includes serving as Director of Research and Technical Education for Country Life, Director of Product Development and Dispensary Manager at the Princeton Brain Bio Center, Chief Scientific Advisor for PATH Medical and Total Health Nutrients, and Nutrition Director at Patients Medical.
These positions involved much more than nutrition alone. My responsibilities have included supplement formulation, product research, clinical applications, product catalogs, marketing literature, sales education, dispensary management, eCommerce, website development, customer education, operational systems, and the evaluation of how health products and services are presented to the marketplace.
I have also worked in clinical chemistry at a major hospital laboratory and in the Whole Body department at Whole Foods Market. These experiences provided additional perspectives on laboratory science, health care, nutritional products, retail merchandising, and the questions and concerns of consumers.
Education and a Broader Perspective
My academic background is primarily in nutrition and the health sciences. I hold a PhD in Holistic Nutrition, an MS in Nutritional Sciences, and a BS in Health Science, with additional studies in areas including pre-medical sciences and pharmacy technology.
My education has also included coursework in anthropology, epidemiology, psychology, sociology, and statistics. I have found that this broader foundation is useful when evaluating not only products and scientific information, but also how people interpret information, make decisions, and respond to health, marketing, and brand messages.
I am also a Certified Pharmacy Technician through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
Writing and Education
Education has been a recurring part of my career. I am the author of The Nutraceutical Reference Guide, a comprehensive clinical ailment and supplement reference, and Nutrition Discovery, a personalized dietary education program. I am also co-author of Metabolic Mastery, a graduate-level learning program in intermediary metabolism and biochemistry.
Throughout my professional work, I have written consumer literature, professional educational materials, technical documents, marketing content, training manuals, product information, and website content. I have always been particularly interested in translating complex scientific or technical information into material that is understandable and useful.
Brand, Marketing, and Business Perspective
Working within medical practices, nutritional supplement companies, retail environments, and my own business ventures gradually expanded my focus beyond individual products.
I became increasingly interested in the relationship between what a company believes it is communicating and what a customer actually sees and experiences. That includes the relationship among the product, the intended customer, brand positioning, marketing messages, website content, product information, and the overall customer experience.
That interest eventually led me to develop the Alignment Audit Suite, a structured diagnostic system that helps identify gaps among brand intent, messaging, target markets, and customer-facing execution.
I have also incorporated artificial intelligence into a range of practical business applications, including research support, content development, questionnaire design, structured analysis, and the development of diagnostic tools. I view AI primarily as a way to extend disciplined human analysis rather than replace it.
A Disciplined Approach
I am a U.S. military veteran and served tours in two separate combat zones. I later served in supervisory roles at Roosevelt Roads Naval Station, including work associated with the Atlantic Fleet Weapons Training Area and combat-readiness exercises involving U.S. and NATO forces.
That experience, together with my scientific and clinical background, contributed to an approach to problems that is methodical, evidence based, and practical. I tend to look for gaps, inconsistencies, overlooked opportunities, and ways to improve how information, products, systems, and organizations work together.
Where My Experience Comes Together
Today, my work brings together several areas that were once separate parts of my career: nutrition science, nutraceutical products, clinical experience, consumer education, business operations, marketing, brand alignment, and analytical problem solving.
I am particularly interested in working with nutraceutical, health, wellness, and related organizations where scientific understanding and business judgment need to work together. Depending on the situation, that may involve product development, technical evaluation, strategic advising, educational content, brand and marketing analysis, or simply bringing an experienced outside perspective to a difficult question.
The common thread throughout my career has been an interest in understanding how things work, identifying where they can work better, and turning that analysis into practical recommendations.
